Ah well it's all over for this season but I think we're all optimists and roll on next season and lets blame the ham shanks for this one. Stan Mass.

Hi Jack and Stan as you say fourth AGAIN in the league, and semifinalists in the Champions League AGAIN, a great achievement and there are lots of teams out there who would be over the moon to achieve that. But nobody remembers a runnerup. To me the main thing is for to win the Premiership. We have won the Champions cup five times. Lets hope next season that Rafa consentrates on winning the Premirship. At least we have something to look forward to AGAIN. The hamshank has promissed more money to strengthen the squad (thats if you can believe him).

Well lads, the Huns beat the Eyties on penalties in Florence.

Accommodation in Manchester is now quoted at £200.00. per night!

Amazing isn't it that we blame the Government for price rises. We have had a four day strike of workers at the Grangemouth oil refinery, they are aggrieved at having to pay for their pensions which were previously agreed as non-contributary!
The company that runs the place makes millions per day, the main shareholder is one of the richest men in the country. Bet he contributes f*** all to his pension pot.
Petrol stations immediately put up the price of fuel although there was no actual shortage.
Do you think it will come down in price?

Anyhoo---good on the Huns, tough luck the Reds, there's always next time.

fred.

Liverpool 1 v Man City 0 Torres57min.
A very subdued game for the of the last home game of the season even though liverpool dominated most of the play. I suppose with Liverpool having nothing more to play for this season, and missing out of the Champions Cup final you can understand it. But anyway we finished fourth in the league and back in the Champions League again next season, so we have something to be greatful for.

You're right Gerry a very Subdued game, probably because there was nothing to achieve but I really enjoyed watching those two little kids running around the park after the match. Stan Mass.

Remember Birminghams ploy of standing a man in front of the goalie during free kicks? Both Everton & Liverpool conceded goals that way, a few weeks ago. I see the Ref's supremo has now decided that it is an illegal move and offside will be given if anyone attempts it - all clubs have been written to.

It doesn't make a big difference to Liverpool, but Everton wouldn't be hanging on last match results, to keep 5th place, if the refs had got their act together a little sooner.

Yes Kevin I saw the ref caution a player in one of the games over the weekend for standing in front of the goalie. I think Everton will get 5th place, I hope so anyway, they only need one point.

Hi Stan, hope Liverpool do a lot better next season otherwise it will have to be Llangefni Town for orders.

Hi Clancy, glad to see you back. I suppose W.B.A. haven't bothered with any celerbrations as its not long since they where in the Premirship. Unlike Stoke City this is the first time for them. Its 23 years since they where in the top flight of football, so I suppose that gives them a bit more right to celerbrate.

LIVERPOOL co-owner Tom Hicks was today forced to abandon plans for a multi million dollar development in Dallas because of the credit crunch - sparking major concerns over his finances and ambitions for Anfield.

Hicks had been planning to build "Glorypark", a mixed used development in Dallas featuring retail, residential and office space due to open in March 2010 at a cost of £257m.

But early today the Texan released a statement confirming fears that his ambitious plans are not sustainable in the current market.

The move will inevitably increase fears that Hicks will not be able to put the funding in place to build a new stadium on Stanley Park for Liverpool, particularly with the UK currently enduring increasingly tough economic conditions which Bank of England chief Mervyn King has admitted could even turn into a recession.

Official Liverpool Supporters Club secretary Les Lawson told the ECHO today's developments will be of concern to all Reds fans.

He said: "When Hicks took over at Anfield he said a spade would go into the ground at Stanley Park within 60 days – 18 months on we are still waiting.

"Today's news from Dallas only adds to our concerns because if he can't afford to finance a cheaper development in the USA how could he afford to build a stadium here?

"It's not just the new stadium that is so worrying either. What about Rafa Benitez's transfer plans? How can they be funded?

"If the Americans can't finance the club and what it needs to get back to the top they should make way for someone who can.
All thies two "Ham Shanks" have done is feed us a pack of lies since they came on the scene. They have just filled us with a load of Yankee Bull Shit.

Rafa Benitez

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has played down his side’s chances of winning the Premier League next season, describing the title as “an option”.

The Reds finished fourth in the season just ended, 11 points behind champions Manchester United.

Their last league title came back in 1990 but Benitez did not sound overly confident of ending that depressing streak in 2008/2009.

“It is an option, for sure,” he told the club’s website, www.liverpoolfc.tv.

“We know our weaknesses and our strengths. We know where we need to improve, so we’ll try to build a new team looking at these things.

“It’s more difficult than in Spain because the top sides spend big, big money. We will try to do our best and the key for me is to not talk about the title.

“The key is to be near the top, to be contenders. If we stay close then I think we are capable of doing it.

“It’s more difficult because after two years of Chelsea winning the league and spending big money, United needed to do the same.

“They started spending big money and Arsenal were also spending big money on young players. We are trying to do the same but because they (Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal) are continuing to spend big money, it makes it more difficult to catch up.

“You also see Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham and Everton spending money and having strong teams. It’s not easy to be in the top four and be contenders but because we have a young squad we can try again.”

Keep up to date with the news. Sign up for News Alerts. It sounds to me like theres no more money comeing from the Yanks for new players. So its wheel and deal time for Rafa.

Liverpool's season began with a stutter as they drew 0-0 with Standard Liege in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier in Belgium.

Liverpool paired Fernando Torres and Robbie Keane together for the first time in competitive action but the duo failed to gel and the Reds can count themselves fortunate to be going back to England on level terms.

Their first escape came after just six minutes when Marouane Fellaini's header appeared to be heading in off the post, only for Jose Reina to scramble across his goal and claw it off the line.

There was some debate as to whether the ball had actually crossed but Liege really should have rendered it immaterial when they were handed a penalty just four minutes later.

Wilfred Dalmat's cross definitely hit the arm of Andrea Dossena, but the left-back was also definitely outside the box. Referee Tom Henning Ovrebo pointed to the spot, though, and it needed Reina again to produce heroics to keep out Dante Bonfim's spot-kick with his legs.

A speculative Xabi Alonso effort that landed on the roof of the net was the closest Liverpool went in a disappointing first 45 minutes and it showed no signs of improving at the start of the second.

Liege again went close through a Igor de Camargo header in the 65th minute and while Rafa Benitez introduced Steven Gerrard for an out-of-sorts Keane, the Merseysiders still could not get into the game.

Reina punched away another De Camargo header seven minutes later but a tame Gerrard free-kick in stoppage time was the closest the visitors went to taking a lead back to Anfield.??????????????????????????? I hope we play better against Sunderland at the weekend
